Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav on Monday described the eradication of decades old Leftwing Extremism in the country as a ‘huge achievement’ of the Centre and gave the credit for it to ‘determination and strong leadership’ of prime minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah.

Addressing an official function organized here to give ‘K F Rustamji’ award to the meritorious cops, Mr. Yadav said that it was no mean challenge to coordinate the states, ruled by governments of different parties, and execute the anti-Naxal strategy to root out the Maoism in the country.

But Mr. Shah had successfully coordinated with the states and implemented the anti-Naxal strategy effectively to bring an end to the decades old Maoist menace, he said.

“This could be achieved only because of the determination and strong leadership” of the PM Mr. Modi and Union home minister Mr. Shah, he added.

Mr. Yadav said that the Centre had set a deadline to end Naxalism by March 2026, but Madhya Pradesh was declared Naxal-free on December 11, 2026, three months ahead of the deadline.

Madhya Pradesh is the first Leftwing Extremism-affected state in the country to be declared a Naxal-free state.

Praising Madhya Pradesh police for delivering in the challenging situations, he said that the state police force was able to eliminate the dacoit menace in Chambal region (in the 1980s) and now Maoism in the state.

Khusro Faramurz Rustamji or K F Rustamji, an illustrious police officer, was the chief of Madhya Pradesh police for seven years from 1958.

As inspector general of police of Madhya Pradesh, he dealt successfully with the problem created by the armed dacoits of the Chambal region.

Many formidable gangs of notorious Chambal dacoits were eliminated by him in the 1970s and early 1980.

They included gangs of Amritlal, Rupa, and Lakhan Singh.

The Madhya Pradesh government instituted the award in his name in 2013 to honour the meritorious cops every year.
