The Congress leader demanded that the chief minister must come out clean by explaining the acquisition of huge lands particularly in the area: Reports
BHOPAL: The land acquisition by Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav and his family members has triggered a political row here with the Opposition Congress on Tuesday demanding a judicial probe by a sitting judge of the supreme court into it as well as his resignation on ‘moral grounds’.
Madhya Pradesh unit Congress president Jitu Patwari, while reacting to the reports of land acquisition by the chief minister and his family members, individually, and through the real estate firms in which they have stakes, called the reports as ‘deeply concerning’.
“The chief minister is not an individual; he represents the entire state. In such a situation, if such serious allegations are made against him, it naturally harms the dignity of the position he occupies as well as of the state”, he said.
The Congress leader demanded that the chief minister must come out clean by explaining the acquisition of huge lands particularly in the area. where road construction projects are mulled.
Describing it a ‘serious issue’, Mr. Patwari demanded a probe by no less than a sitting judge of the supreme court into the matter.
The chief minister should resign on moral grounds, he added.
Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Umang Singhar said that if a chief minister faces charges of being involved in corruption, then the ministers are bound to do the same.
He called the alleged land acquisition controversy as “Mohan Yadav Files”, in line with Kerala Files, Epstein Files etc….
AICC general secretary and former Union minister Jairam Ramesh took to X to raise the issue.
In the X post, he said that the media report claimed that members of Yadav’s family and their real estate firms had acquired at least 137 plots spread across 168 acres in Ujjain for Rs 45 crore.
He said that the media report claimed that the acquisition allegedly took place largely in areas expected to benefit from road projects.
Neither the BJP nor the chief minister’s office has come out with an official reaction to the reports till the report was filed.
“We cannot give any kind of reaction. It is the chief minister who will react to the report, if he wishes”, a senior BJP functionary told this newspaper, unwilling to be quoted.
Mr. Yadav in his asset declaration affidavit filed ahead of 2023 Assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh, announced that he owned 17 acres through inheritance and purchases, while his wife directly owns at least 10.6 acres.
The couple also jointly holds 39.5 acres through Siddhi Vinayak Devcon Pvt Ltd, a firm in which they jointly own more than 73 percent stake.
