MP CM Hints At Renaming Orchha's Jahangir Mahal After Hindu Ruler
Mr. Yadav during his visit to the holy city of Orchha to attend the executive body meeting of the state BJP a couple of days ago had indicated that the Jahangir Mahal should be renamed after its maker, Veer Singh Judeo, the erstwhile ruler of Bundelkhand.
Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav has dropped hints that the famous Jahangir Mahal, an architectural marvel, in Orchha in Niwari district in the state will be renamed after the medieval period Hindu ruler of Bundelkhand, Veer Singh Judeo.
Mr. Yadav during his visit to the holy city of Orchha to attend the executive body meeting of the state BJP a couple of days ago had indicated that the Jahangir Mahal should be renamed after its maker, Veer Singh Judeo, the erstwhile ruler of Bundelkhand.
The fort- palace was built by the Bundle dynast ruler for the comfortable stay of Mughal dynasty member Jahangir (Salim) during the latter’s visit to Orchha.
But Jahangir never stayed in the palace.
“There are many aspects of the past that should be brought to light”, Mr. Yadav had said.
“The palace should be named after the person who built it. But there was a malicious attempt to erase our historical heritage, to erase their names by the Moghuls and the subsequent culture. That was not good”, senior BJP leader and former minister Narottam Mishra who also attended the executive body meeting of the party said.
Built on the bank of Betwa river in 1518, Jahangir Mahal is a unique blend of Bundela and Mughal architecture.
It is built on a rectangular platform with a circular dome at each corner.
The palace has 236 marble rooms.
