Bhopal: The Jhalmuri, a Bengali popular snack, has become an instant hit in the Hindi heartland, thanks to BJP’s spectacular victory in the 2026 Assembly polls in West Bengal.

The iconic street food of Kolkata, which had hogged the limelight in the weeks long high-voltage campaign by both the BJP and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s sudden desire to have a taste of the snack from an eatery during his electioneering, was served to the BJP people across Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh as a mark of celebration of the landslide victory by the party in the WB polls.

Huge orders of ‘Jhalmuri’ were made by the party at the block, district and state headquarters to share them among the partymen while celebrating the crucial election win.

“We had made arrangements for sharing of Jhalmuri at all party offices in the state beginning from panchayat to state headquarters in the state to celebrate the election victory in WB. Even Jhalmuri was distributed among the partymen, instead of sweets, to celebrate victory in many places in the state”, Mahendra Dave, a BJP leader here said.

Senior BJP leaders and workers including chief minister Mohan Yadav and state party president Hemant Khandelwal here were seen savouring Jhalmuri to celebrate victory in WB polls.

Several state ministers were also seen in Bhopal distributing Jhalmuri to partymen and the passersby.

In Chhattisgarh too, BJP’s victory in the WB polls triggered a Jhalmuri celebration by the party’s senior leaders and workers across the state.

Chhattisgarh chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai, and a host of his ministerial colleagues as well as speaker of the Chhattisgarh legislative Assembly Dr Raman Singh were seen enjoying the iconic snack of Kolkata at the state party headquarters as a mark of celebration of WB poll victory.

Jhalmuri is made from puffed rice, tossed with pungent raw mustard oil, roasted peanuts, spices, chopped onions, tomatoes, and boiled potatoes.

It is known for its spicy and tangy flavour profile, commonly served in conical paper wrapper.

In the Hindi belt, Jhalmuri snack is named ‘Bhel’.
