MP: Barkatullah University Set To Be Renamed As Vagdevi Bhojpal University
This is the first educational institution in the state to be rechristened during the BJP regime in the state
Bhopal: One of the oldest universities of Madhya Pradesh, Barkatullah Vishwavidyalaya, is set to be renamed as Vagdevi Bhojpal Vishwavidyalaya.
The executive council of the university has made a recommendation to this effect to Madhya Pradesh governor Mangubhai Patel.
The move comes days after the Madhya Pradesh high court designated the Bhojshala shrine- Kamal Maula Mosque complex in Dhar district in the state as Temple of Vagdevi, settling the long-standing dispute between Hindus and Muslims over ownership of the site.
This is the first educational institution in the state to be rechristened during the BJP regime in the state.
Names of some districts, railway stations, towns and even villages have been changed during the BJP regime in the state to give them a Hindu identity.
Barkatullah University, established in 1970, was originally named Bhopal University.
The university was rechristened as Barkatullah University after the name of distinguished academician Prof. Barkatullah in 1988.
The university is established in an area of 400 acres in the heart of Bhopal city and conducts post graduation courses in arts, science, commerce and related subjects.
