NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said India has, over the past 12 years, focused on making healthcare affordable and accessible, citing flagship schemes and expanded medical education.

In a series of posts on X, Modi said, "Over the last 12 years, India has worked to make quality healthcare more affordable and accessible. We feel proud when we are known as the nation with the world’s largest healthcare programme, Ayushman Bharat, which provides top-quality healthcare to the most vulnerable.”

He attributed improved affordability to initiatives such as the Ayushman Bharat and the PM Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana, and said regulated prices of stents and knee implants had benefited patients.

“Other efforts like PM Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana have made medicines affordable. The prices of stents and knee implants have become affordable and this has helped many people. At the same time, medical education has become more accessible to people due more institutions and seats being available. We will keep building on this ground covered so far in order to build a healthy India,” he said.

Quoting a post by MyGov India, Modi added, “A glimpse of how the health sector has been transformed 12YearsOfSwasthBharat".

MyGov India said healthcare accessibility remained a key national investment and highlighted gains in reach and system capacity over the period. "Over the past 12 years, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, India has made significant strides to ensure quality healthcare reaches more people, more efficiently, and more affordably. The healthcare ecosystem today is more accessible, resilient, and future-ready for its citizens," it said.

It also cited expansion in medical education, stating that increased institutions and seats had improved access for students, including in underserved regions, and contributed to a growing pool of trained healthcare professionals.
