Modi, Putin Annual Summit To Be Held In Delhi In December

The Russian President’s visit is expected towards the end of the first week of December. During his discussions in Moscow last week with Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov, external affairs minister S. Jaishankar said preparations were underway for President Putin’s visit to India for the annual bilateral summit.

New Delhi: The 23rd annual summit between India and Russia, co-chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin, will be held next month in New Delhi, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Wednesday, without specifying the exact dates. At his weekly media briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said several issues expected to feature in the Summit outcomes are currently being discussed by both sides.

The Russian President’s visit is expected towards the end of the first week of December. During his discussions in Moscow last week with Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov, external affairs minister S. Jaishankar said preparations were underway for President Putin’s visit to India for the annual bilateral summit. He noted that “a number of bilateral agreements, initiatives and projects are under discussion in various fields” and said he looked forward to their finalisation “in the coming days.” Dr Jaishankar also hailed the “Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership” between the two “time-tested friends.”

In August, Modi had said he looked forward to hosting President Putin in India later this year for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit, and had extended an invitation to the Russian leader.
