A 19-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by a group of 23 men in the Lalpur Pandeypur area of Varanasi, with police arresting six of the seven identified accused so far. According to Additional Commissioner of Police, Cantonment, Vidush Saxena, the teenager had gone somewhere with a group of youths on March 29. When she failed to return home, her family filed a missing person report on April 4. She was soon traced by the police, but initially did not disclose any details about the sexual assault.
However, on April 6, her family lodged a fresh complaint, alleging gang rape. Based on her statement, police said the girl was allegedly taken to several hotels and hookah bars over a span of seven days, where she was repeatedly raped.
An investigation is underway, and police are in the process of arresting the remaining accused.
