Bhubaneswar: In a deeply disturbing incident that has sparked outrage across Odisha, a minor girl from a migrant family was allegedly gang-raped in Kendrapara district on Monday night.

According to police reports, the victim’s family, who earn their livelihood by selling brooms locally, was targeted when miscreants allegedly abducted the young girl at knife-point from her residence. She was taken to an isolated location where the perpetrators reportedly assaulted her.

The family lodged a formal complaint at the Sadar Police Station soon after the ordeal. Acting swiftly on the First Information Report (FIR), Kendrapara police detained two suspects for interrogation.

Reports last came in said medical examinations were being scheduled, and investigators were gathering evidence to build a strong case against the accused.

This incident follows another shocking case reported just a day earlier in Bolangir’s Patnagarh area, where a young woman was allegedly gang-raped by her ‘boyfriend’ and his associates.

Child-rights and women’s advocacy groups condemned the Kendrapara assault, urging authorities to ensure swift under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and provide counseling support to help the survivor cope with trauma. They also urged the government to strengthen community vigilance to prevent such crimes, especially against vulnerable families and enhance police accountability to restore public trust in law enforcement.
