Bhubaneswar: Masked Man Rapes Woman at Gunpoint in Flat

Bhubaneswar: A 26-year-old woman was allegedly raped at gunpoint by a "masked man" at her rented flat here, police said on Thursday.

The woman lodged a complaint at the Nayapalli police station, alleging that the man entered the apartment on Wednesday night and raped her while threatening her with a gun.

Bhubaneswar DCP Saravana Vivek M said the woman lives in the apartment with her elder sister, while the owner resides on another floor.

"According to the victim, her sister went outside for some work. At that time, the accused knocked on the door. Assuming it was her sister, the victim opened the door, and the incident took place," he told PTI.

Senior police officers have visited the spot, he said, adding that efforts are being made to identify the accused.

A medical examination of the victim was conducted, and her statement was recorded as per procedure, the police said.

The police have formed multiple teams and are examining CCTV footage of nearby areas to trace the accused.

Meanwhile, the opposition BJD has submitted a memorandum to the Bhubaneswar DCP demanding immediate arrest of the culprit.

"The incident is extremely serious and deeply disturbing.... It raises grave concerns regarding the safety and security of women in the capital city," the party said in a memorandum submitted to the police.
