Make India A Global Hub Of Skilled Talent: Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged youth, the government and training institutions to work together to make India a global hub for skilled talent.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday called for coordinated efforts by young people, the government and training institutions to establish India as a global hub of skilled human resources.
Interacting with members of Team India who participated in the WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, Modi congratulated them for representing the country and urged them to become ambassadors of skill development.
He said practical skills were as important as academic degrees and stressed the need for young people to continuously acquire new skills, upgrade their capabilities and adapt to emerging technologies.
The participants shared their experiences of adapting to new tools, software, technical systems and work processes during the competition. They also spoke about government initiatives supporting skill development.
Modi urged them to develop skills suited to international market requirements and share their experiences and suggestions to strengthen India’s training system.
Explaining the objective behind establishing a separate ministry for skill development, he said skill training institutions were no less important than IITs and IIMs.
Minister of state with independent charge for skill development and entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhary and senior officials attended the interaction.
India finished 10th at the 48th WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, winning six silver medals and 20 medals for excellence. Its largest-ever contingent comprised 70 competitors participating across 63 skills.
