Mahadev App ‘Kingpin’ Extradited From Oman
CBI brings back Sourabh Chandrakar, the alleged mastermind of the ₹6,000-crore online betting scam, to face proceedings in India.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday brought back Sourabh Chandrakar, the alleged kingpin of the ₹6,000-crore Mahadev online betting app scam, following his extradition from Oman.
A CBI team escorted Chandrakar to India after he was detained by the Royal Oman Police on the basis of an Interpol Red Notice. He will be produced before a special court in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, on Monday, officials said.
Chandrakar is wanted in two CBI cases and an Enforcement Directorate (ED) money-laundering case, in which chargesheets have already been filed.
The CBI said the Mahadev betting syndicate operated from abroad, offering illegal betting on cricket, football, card games and other events through a network of franchises across India.
Investigators alleged that the proceeds were routed through mule bank accounts and transferred abroad through hawala channels. Part of the money was allegedly used to bribe public servants to ensure the syndicate operated without interference.
The ED has attached several properties linked to the syndicate in India and abroad.
The CBI described Chandrakar's extradition as a major step in bringing fugitives operating transnational criminal networks to justice.
