The official announcement of the revenue earned by the shrine has come from the Mahakal Temple Committee.
According to the committee, the share of the revenue from donations by the devotees is Rs 78 crore in 2025-26, the highest donation ever earned.
This is Rs 27 crore more than the donations received in 2024-25.
There are different types of donations received from the devotees.
They are donations through ‘Hundis’ (donation boxes), at counters, through money order, through online, and secret donations.
Major share of the donations (Rs 62 crore) received is from 95 ‘Hundis’ installed in the shrine.
The secret donations amounted to Rs 4.65 crore.
This apart, the revenue earned through sale of ‘laddu’ prasad (offerings) was Rs 65 crore.
This apart, the shrine also received gold and silver jewelry, worth crores of rupees, as donations from the devotees.
According to officials of the committee, the footfalls of devotees in the ancient shrine have increased more than three-fold after establishment of the Mahakal Corridor in the premises of the Mahakaleshwar Temple in 2022.
The corridor was dedicated to the nation by prime minister Narendra Modi on October 11, 2022.
The temple used to witness footfalls of 40,000-50,000 devotees daily before the establishment of the corridor, which increased to around 1.50 lakh after the corridor was thrown open to the public in October 2022.
The expenditure of the temple is estimated at around Rs five crore every month, officials said.
