BHOPAL: Amid circulation of stories of a Hanuman idol refusing to budge from its position, the local administration in Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday came out with the clarification that no efforts in this regard have so far been made.
A press release issued by the Ujjain district administration said that the stories of the Hanuman idol refusing to budge despite the employment of JCB machine and crane, being circulated in some media and social media, are baseless.
No such efforts have been made so far, the administration clarified.
The issue relates to the ongoing move by the local administration and the municipal corporation to dismantle a Hanuman temple and shift the idol to another place in Ujjain city to facilitate a road widening project being undertaken keeping in view the 2028 Kumbh Mela in Ujjain.
The entire temple, including its sanctum sanctorum, was dismantled amid mild protests by some locals and the administration has decided to seek help from experts to suggest measures to remove the Hanuman idol and shift it to a designated place in the city, safely, without damaging the statue.
The Hanuman idol is associated with the religious sentiments of the people and hence, it is decided to seek help of the experts to suggest measures to remove and shift it, safely, officials said.
Sources said that a team of archaeologists and engineering experts are visiting the site to scan the base of the idol and recommend measures to remove it safely.
Local historians say that the temple may date back to the Parmar dynasty and as per designs of temple constructed during the period, the idols were installed with interlocking mechanisms at their bases.
