Madhya Pradesh: Twisha Case: Ex-Judge, Son’s Remand Extended Till Aug 11

Twisha (33) was allegedly found dead in her matrimonial home here on May 12, 2026 barely six months into her marriage with Samarth Singh, a practicing lawyer and former legal advisor to the Madhya Pradesh government.

An FIR has been lodged under BNS Sections 80(2) (dowry death), 85 (cruelty), and 3 (5) (common intentions), and Section 3 (giving or taking dowry), and 4 (demanding dowry) of the Dowry Prohibition Act against Twish’a mom-in-law Giribala and husband Samarth.

The mother-son duo were later arrested.

Madhya Pradesh police had constituted a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the case after the investigation by the police in the case came under scanner.

Later, the case was handed over to the CBI for investigation.

Earlier, the CBI court had granted extension of judicial remand of Giribala and her son till July 28.

According to Subhang Dixit, counsel for the deceased’s family, the CBI sought further extension of judicial remand of Giribala and her son Samarth till August 11 contending that the probe in the case was still in progress and the two accused may influence the case after their release.

The defence counsel however contested the CBI’s plea arguing that no new development in the case has been mentioned in it.

The CBI however argued that deposition of several witnesses in the case were yet to be recorded while seeking extension of judicial remand of the two accused till August 11.

On Saturday, the First Additional Sessions court, Bhopal, rejected the bail application of Giribala, noting that the case diary contained sufficient material to indicate her involvement in the unnatural death of her daughter-in-law Twisha, and that the investigation was still in progress.

The bail application stated that Giribala has been in judicial custody since June two and she is a reputed woman who has rendered 35 years of judicial service.
