Madhya Pradesh: 5 Workers Killed As Soil Caves In During Well Construction, 2 Rescued

 Bhopal: Five workers, engaged in the construction of a well in a village in Madhya Pradesh’s Panna district, were on Tuesday killed when the soil caved in on them, police said.

Two other labourers were rescued safely.

The incident took place in the village of Nayapurwa under Ajeygarh block in the district.

According to Panna district superintendent of police Nivedita Naidu, the tragedy occurred when the labourers, engaged in the construction of the village well under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme, were buried under the soil that caved in.

A rescue operation was launched immediately after the incident.

Bodies of the five workers were removed from the debris while two other labourers were pulled out of it safely, police said.

Panna district collector Usha Parmar rushed to the spot to supervise the rescue operation.
