Madhya Pradesh: 2 Arrested For Offensive Remarks On Hindu Deities

BHOPAL: Two people, including a Christian leader, were arrested for allegedly making offensive remarks against Hindu deities and religious beliefs, police said on Saturday.
The arrests followed a First Information Report (FIR) registered in the Civil Line Police Station here based on a complaint lodged by a BJP leader in this regard.
According to the FIR, one Hansraj Goyal allegedly posted controversial remarks on his social media accounts questioning the Hindu sacred beliefs, while naming Hindu deities including Shiva, Ram, Krishna, Vishnu, Hanuman, Indra, Brahma and Ganesh.
A Christian leader Arun Pannalal, president of Chhattisgarh Christian Forum, later posted allegedly objectionable remarks on his social media account against Hindu religious beliefs and traditions.
In his complaint, state BJP president Chimnani, said that the remarks have deeply hurt the sentiments of the Hindus.
He alleged that the comments were made intentionally to spread disharmony in the society.
The accused have been booked under Sections 196 (promoting enmity between classes), 299 (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings), and 353 (2) (statements conducive to public mischief and hatred) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with relevant provisions of Information Technology Act.
The two people were arrested, police said.
