BHOPAL: Katara Hills sub-inspector Dinesh Sharma, investigating officer in the initial stage of probe into the mysterious death of 33-year-old model Twisha Sharma, has been fined ₹5,000 for negligence in duty after a preliminary departmental inquiry found lapses in his functioning, sources said.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) later took over the probe from the police.

As per the investigation norms, all material evidence related to Twisha’s death should have been submitted along with the body of the victim for the postmortem examination. But SI Sharma failed to submit the ligature material, which was reportedly used by Twisha on May 12, according to the police.

The SI had submitted the gymnastic ring rope allegedly used by Twisha to the forensic team two days after the postmortem examination, which is a serious procedural lapse in the investigation process, police said.

The lapses in the investigation had prompted Twisha’s family members to demand a second autopsy and later a CBI probe into the case.

Twisha's mother-in-law Giribala Singh, a retired judge, and the victim’s husband Samarth, a criminal lawyer, are accused in the case. Both are currently under judicial custody after completing five-day CBI- custody. The mother-son duo has been lodged in the Bhopal Central Jail.
