New Delhi: Security measures were tightened in New Delhi on Thursday as protests demanding the resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan continued.

The Union home ministry ordered the suspension of mobile internet services within a 1.5-km radius of Jantar Mantar from 4 pm to midnight. The directive was issued to telecom service providers amid the ongoing youth protests.

Commercial activity in Connaught Place was also curtailed, with shops, offices and restaurants directed to close by 6.30 pm following an advisory issued by the New Delhi Traders Association (NDTA). The traders' body said the advisory followed telephonic instructions from the chairperson and vice-chairperson of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), citing the prevailing situation due to the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)-led protest. Establishments were asked to comply to prevent any untoward incident or damage to property.
