Bhopal: Veteran Congress leader and former chief minister Digvijaya Singh on Thursday came down heavily on the Mohan Yadav government for the water contamination tragedy in Indore in Madhya Pradesh and demanded a probe into it by a sitting judge of the high court.

In a statement, Mr. Singh said that the contamination of water in an area in the city has not only caused deaths of 20 people so far but also seriously dented the image of Indore, the cleanest city of India.

He regretted that the administration had gone into slumber until the water contamination caused the death of two people and the blame game among the elected representatives and officers started when the death toll increased.

The minister blamed the officers, the officers shifted blame on the mayor of Indore Municipal Corporation and the mayor passed the buck on the system, he said.

He alleged that there was a move to shield the culprits in the incident.

Mr. Singh demanded a judicial probe into the incident by a sitting judge of the high court and public hearing in the case during its trial.

State Congress president Jitu Patwari on Thursday demanded a special audit of the water supply system in Indore.
