India, Ukraine to Work on Dates for Zelenskyy Visit
Earlier this month, President Zelenskyy had spoken with Modi, after which he stated that the two leaders had “agreed to plan a personal meeting in September during the UN General Assembly and to work on an exchange of visits.”
New Delhi: A year after Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended a formal invitation to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his visit to Kyiv, both sides are now working on finalising the dates for the visit.
Ukrainian Ambassador to India Oleksandr Polishchuk told reporters, “Both sides are working on this (the Presidential visit). So definitely, we expect President Zelenskyy in India. We are in the process of agreeing on the precise date. But the invitation already exists.”

Meanwhile, external affairs minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar on Sunday congratulated his Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sybiha on the occasion of Ukraine’s Independence Day, reaffirming India’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties. On Saturday evening, Delhi’s historic 13th-century monument Qutub Minar was lit up in the colours of the Ukrainian national flag, marking Ukraine’s National Flag Day ahead of Independence Day celebrations.
Thanking the EAM, Sybiha recalled his earlier visit to New Delhi and Mumbai, highlighting expanding bilateral business relations, regular dialogue between leaders, and Ukraine’s growing diplomatic presence in India.
The developments underscore New Delhi’s balancing act, as India continues to nurture close ties with Ukraine while maintaining its long-standing strategic partnership with Russia amid the ongoing Russia–Ukraine war. During his recent conversation with President Zelenskyy, Modi reaffirmed India’s “steadfast and consistent position for the peaceful settlement of the conflict.”
