India Targeting Tenfold Rise In Nuclear Energy By 2047: PM Modi
Work is progressing rapidly on 10 new nuclear reactors, said PM Modi
Underscoring “Atmanirbhar Bharat” as the key foundational plank for “Viksit Bharat”, the Prime Minister cited the country's advances in defence, technology, energy, space and manufacturing. Lauding Operation Sindoor, Mr Modi said that strategic autonomy and indigenous capabilities are key to decisively tackling threats, making self-reliance the bedrock of national strength, dignity, and the journey to a developed India by 2047.
On the 79th Independence Day, the Prime Minister made a series of announcements that signal India is ready to leap, not just step, into the future. From making India’s first semiconductor chip to building jet engines, from tenfold nuclear expansion to a `1-lakh crores youth employment push, Mr Modi’s message was unambiguous: “Bharat will define its own destiny, set its own terms, and aim to become a developed nation by 2047.”
Saluting the brave warriors of “Operation Sindoor”, Mr Modi said that the country's courageous soldiers punished the enemies beyond anything they could have imagined.
“Operation Sindoor was the expression of that outrage. After the events of April 22, we gave our Army complete freedom—let them decide the strategy, choose the targets and select the timing. And our Army accomplished something that had not happened in decades,” Mr Modi said, adding that our armed forces penetrated hundreds of kilometres into enemy territory, reduced terrorist headquarters to dust and turned terrorist headquarters into ruins.
The Prime Minister noted that Pakistan is still sleepless, as the devastation there has been so huge that every day brings new revelations and fresh information.
“Now, we have established a new normal…those who nurture and harbour terrorism and those who empower terrorists will no longer be seen as separate. They are all equal enemies of humanity, with no distinction between them,” he said.
In his address, the Prime Minister once again asserted that Bharat has now decided that we will no longer tolerate these nuclear threats.
On the issue of the Indus Waters Treaty, the Prime Minister made it unequivocally clear that “India has now decided blood and water will not flow together".
Talking about Atmanirbhar Bharat, Mr Modi said, “Dependence on others raises questions about a nation’s independence. It is unfortunate when dependence becomes a habit, a dangerous one. That’s why we must remain aware and committed to becoming self-reliant. Self-reliance is not just about exports, imports, the rupee, or the dollar. It is about our capabilities, our strength to stand on our own.”
The Prime Minister announced that India will roll out its first Made-in-India semiconductor chip by 2025 and is opening the nuclear sector to private players, creating unprecedented opportunities in energy and technology.
Mr Modi urged citizens, especially the youth, to take part in nation-building by innovating and producing jet engines, social media platforms, fertilisers and other critical technologies indigenously, forging a future where India stands self-reliant, powerful, and globally respected.
The Prime Minister also highlighted India’s bold steps to secure resources critical for its future. Through the National Critical Minerals Mission, the country is exploring 1,200 sites to ensure access to minerals essential for energy, industry and defence, he said.
Mr Modi also urged the nation to achieve self-reliance in medicines and innovation, highlighting India’s strength as the “pharmacy of the world”.
To strengthen India’s offensive and deterrent capabilities, the Prime Minister announced the launch of “Mission Sudarshan Chakra”, drawing inspiration from India’s rich cultural and mythological heritage.
“India is launching Mission Sudarshan Chakra to create a powerful weapon system to thwart any attempt by enemies to attack us,” he said.
The Prime Minister stated that all public places will be covered by an expanded nationwide security shield by 2035, ensuring comprehensive protection for the nation while showcasing India’s commitment to self-reliant defence.
Mr Modi also announced the formation of a task force for next-generation economic reforms”, aimed at overhauling laws, rules, and procedures that govern economic activity.
In his address from Red Fort, the Prime Minister pointed out that the government has already abolished over 40,000 unnecessary compliances and 1,500 outdated laws, and in the latest parliamentary session, over 280 provisions were removed. He also announced next-generation GST reforms.
Noting that the nation's youth play a central role in its growth, Mr Modi launched the PM Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana, a `1-lakh crores employment scheme under which newly employed youth will receive `15,000, targeting 3-crore young Indians.
The Prime Minister also announced plans to increase India’s nuclear power generation capacity tenfold by 2047, with 10 new nuclear reactors underway, ensuring energy security and sustainable growth. He added that if India were not dependent on energy imports, the money saved could be used for the welfare of farmers, further strengthening the backbone of the nation’s prosperity.
Mr Modi called the RSS the 'world's biggest NGO' and lauded the Sangh for its 100 years of service to the nation.
Mentioning changing demography, Mr Modi mentioned that as part of a deliberate conspiracy, the demography of the country is being altered. “Seeds of a new crisis are being sown. These infiltrators are snatching away the livelihoods of our youth. These infiltrators are targeting our sisters and daughters. This will not be tolerated. These infiltrators are misleading innocent tribals and seizing their lands,” he said, and mentioned that the nation will not endure this.
“When demographic change occurs, particularly in border areas, it creates a crisis for national security. It threatens the unity, integrity and progress of the country. It sows the seeds of social tension. No country can hand itself over to infiltrators. No nation in the world does so. How then can we allow Bharat to do so?” he said.
The Prime Minister announced the launch of a high-power "Demography Mission” and said that through this mission, the severe crisis now looming over Bharat will be addressed in a deliberate and time-bound manner.
