Nagpur: Cops Ban Loud Sound Systems, laser Light Beams Till Nov 1

Nagpur: Nagpur police on Thursday issued an order banning the use of high-powered and modified sound systems as well as beams and laser lights during the forthcoming festival season, an official said. The restriction, imposed under Section 163 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), will be in force from September 4 till 11.59 pm on November 1, the official said citing the order.
In a press note, Nagpur police commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil said disputes and tensions often arise during festivals like Gokulashtami, Dahihandi, Pola, Tanhapola, Tajuddin Baba's Chhabbisi, Ganeshotsav arrival and immersion processions, Dhamma Chakra Pravartan Day and Dussehra arrival and immersion processions due to use of different types of sound systems and modified sound system vehicles.
Such equipment violate noise limits prescribed under Environment Protection Act 1986 and Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules 2000, while the use of beam and laser lights can injure citizens' eyes, endanger public health and cause drivers to lose control, leading to accidents, it said.
Accordingly, all programme organisers, office-bearers, sound-system operators, sound-system vehicle owners and beam/laser-light system operators have been informed that use of "Dolby and plasma sound systems, pressure music systems, modified sound-system vehicles, and beam and laser lights" has been banned from September 4 to November 1, the order said.
