A tree collapsed from a construction site onto the three-wheeler, critically injuring the victims.
Mumbai : A 14-year-old girl died on Sunday, a week after she sustained critical injuries when a tree from a construction site fell on an autorickshaw she was travelling in the western suburbs here, police said. Another woman, who was injured in the accident that occurred near Khar on May 10, remains in a critical condition, they said.
A tree collapsed from a construction site onto the three-wheeler, critically injuring the victims, Erica Shrivastav and Harshita Kumar (21), an official said.
Shrivastav died during the day while undergoing treatment at Hinduja Hospital, he said, adding that the victims had suffered severe head and spinal injuries in the accident.
Earlier this week, the police registered a case against Bluestone Construction Company under sections 125(B) (act of endangering life or personal safety of others) and 290 (negligent conduct with respect to pulling down, repairing or constructing buildings) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Visuals from the spot showed the tree crashing through metal safety sheets installed around the construction site before falling onto the footpath and the passing autorickshaw. Workers were later seen cutting and removing parts of the fallen tree while the victims were extricated from the mangled vehicle.
No arrests have been made so far, and further investigation is underway.
