Bengaluru: Amazon India witnessed strong customer demand during the Amazon Great Summer Sale, one of its marquee shopping events, as customers across the country shopped for products across categories including consumer electronics, large appliances, fashion and beauty and grocery along with home, kitchen and outdoors. The event witnessed double-digit year-on-year growth, as premiumization continued to accelerate across smartphones, large appliances and home entertainment along with fashion and beauty. Customers increasingly shopped from a wide selection of budget-friendly, trend-forward products across fashion, consumer electronics, home and kitchen categories, supported by affordability options such as no-cost EMI, exchange offers and fast, reliable delivery. Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities continued to play a significant role, with close to 1.2X growth across cities such as Chandigarh, Coimbatore, Saharanpur, Thane and more. Prime members across cities availed same-day delivery on eligible orders. Additionally, nearly 1 in 3 orders were made using Amazon Pay, while travel bookings witnessed strong momentum with a 1.4X increase in travel bookings compared to the previous year.
Season favourites and summer-led shopping driving consumption
Summer-driven shopping trends played a key role in shaping customer demand with strong traction across cooling appliances, hydration products, fashion and beauty. Air conditioners, air coolers, refrigerators and cold beverages witnessed demand amid rising temperatures, while overall fashion and beauty recorded 1.6X year-on-year growth, led by categories such as accessories, jewellery, kurtas, cotton co-ords, dresses and lightweight summer apparel. Beauty and personal care also grew by 2.5X year-on-year growth compared to last year, driven by shampoo, conditioners, lightweight sunscreens, tinted moisturisers, fragrances and SPF-infused skincare products.
Premiumisation trends emerge across Bharat
The shopping event witnessed strong premiumisation trends across categories, with customers increasingly opting for upgrades across smartphones and home appliances along with fashion and beauty. Premium smartphones priced above INR 30,000 witnessed robust 2.1X year-on-year growth by value, driven by strong demand for AI-enabled and flagship devices, from brands such as Apple, Samsung and OnePlus. A similar trend was visible across large appliances, where AI-enabled appliances in the premium segment grew close to 1.3X year-on-year and accounted for 1.8X of total premium demand, underscoring customers’ growing preference for AI-led features. Furthermore, AI-enabled products also witnessed strong growth across premium refrigerators, washing machines and air conditioners from brands including LG, Samsung, Panasonic, Haier and Godrej. AI-enabled premium appliances recorded over 1.3X year-on-year growth, further reflecting adoption of smart appliances. Premium fashion and lifestyle brands such as Titan Raga, Nike, PNG Jewellers, Samsonite, Kerastase and more also saw increased adoption during the event, highlighting rising aspiration-led consumption across India. Overall, year-on-year trends pointed to a clear customer shift toward premium home upgrades and feature-rich appliances.
Budget-friendly products also surged during the event
Demand for budget-friendly products continued to grow, with customers increasingly shopping from the widest selection of ultra-affordable, trend-forward products that enabled them to refresh their wardrobes and upgrade their homes without stretching their budgets. Customers shopped across fashion, consumer electronics, home and kitchen categories, enjoying greater value and convenience this season.
AI-enabled and smart products gained momentum
From AI-enabled smartphones and appliances to feature-rich smart home products, customers increasingly prioritised convenience, performance and energy efficiency while making purchase decisions. Bangalore emerged as the leading city during the event, driven by its tech-savvy and premium-first consumer base, followed by Hyderabad and Delhi, with all three cities demonstrating strong preference for AI-enabled and side-by-side appliances. The growing adoption of AI-enabled air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines and smartphones reflects rising consumer interest in connected and intelligent devices that enhance everyday living experiences.
Health and wellness took the centre stage
Health and wellness continued to gain momentum during the shopping event, driven by rising fitness consciousness and evolving lifestyle preferences among customers. Home workout and fitness equipment surged over 1.3X year-on-year with cardio growing over 1.8X year-on-year. The protein and nutrition category recorded significant growth, alongside increasing demand for hydration beverages, electrolyte drinks, coconut water, dry fruits, nuts and protein supplements. Summer refreshment and kitchen-prep essentials including portable blenders, ice cream trays, popsicle makers and hydration accessories also saw heightened demand, reflecting growing interest in at-home beverage, dessert and café-style experiences this summer.
