Malabar gets ready to face monsoon
On June 6, government and semi government offices and premises will be cleaned.
KOZHIKODE: The district administrations in north Kerala have started the pre-monsoon drive to prevent the outbreak of infectious diseases and tackle floods. District-level review meetings conducted at various district headquarters on Monday by the ministers finalized the plans.
In Kozhikode, Transport Minister A.K Saseendran chaired the meeting at the collectorate. The government will launch a cleanliness drive on June 5 with the cooperation of the public. On June 6, government and semi government offices and premises will be cleaned.
The meeting also decided to remove the waste, clear the drainages and cut down trees posing a threat to the people’s lives. MLAs, District Collector, Police Commissioner and the District Medical Officer among others took part. In Kannur, Health Minister K.K. Shylaja chaired the meeting and said the government will include cleaning of drainages in the MGNREGS. Compensation for monsoon calamities would be disbursed within one week.
District Collector P. Bala Kiran said that the vacancies of a total of 126 doctors and 89 nurses had been reported in the district. The minister directed the DMO to fill the vacancies with temporary staff as soon as possible and ensure the service of at least one medical officer in a public health centre.
Kannur MP P.K. Sreemathi, MLAs A.N Shamseer and C. Krishnan, Kannur Mayor E.P. Latha and the police chief among other officials participated. In Wayanad, Excise Minister T.K. Ramakrishnan, who presided over the meeting, directed the civic bodies to convene ward meetings by Tuesday. The Kasargod taluk- level meeting of officials will be convened on Tuesday.
