VIJAYAWADA:  The Andhra Pradesh government has sanctioned prosecution against the managing director, printer and publisher, editor, and bureau chief of Eenadu newspaper for publishing a false news article on the Polavaram project on May 12, 2023.

The news article, which was titled “Polavaram Jagamantha Vaiphalyem” (Polavaram Project a Failure), contained several false allegations and statements about the project. It also caused enormous prejudice to the state government and damaged its reputation and integrity in the eyes of the public.

A government order issued on Monday said that the news article was intended to harm the fair name and reputation of the AP water resources department and the concerned government officials. It also said that the news article was based on a wholly erroneous understanding and interpretation of the factors relating to the Polavaram project.

The government order has directed the water resources department to file a complaint in a competent court of law against the MD and others of Eenadu.
