Hyderabad: The TS government, mulling over appointing individual Chancellors for each university, may be forced to rethink the idea. The Apex Court, while approving TS government's decision to appoint nine Vice-Chancellors, has directed it not to tinker with the policy of Governor acting as the Chancellor for all the universities, which is the case in other states.

Telangana State Council for Higher Education chairman N. Papi Reddy said that they would look into the court order and decide on their next move.

It may be mentioned here that the TS government brought in an amendment to the existing rules to take away the authority of the Governor to act as the Chancellor of all varsities in the state.

According to sources, the government might rethink this stand and continue with the previous policy. However, it would take steps to retain the authority of appointing V-Cs that earlier used to be with the Chancellor.
