No gain, no pain for E P Jayarajan

Kochi: The accused in the nepotism case, including former minister E.P. Jayarajan, have not made any financial or other benefits through the appointment of P. K. Sudheer, a relative of Jayarajan, according to the affidavit filed by the Vigilance in the High Court. It  made it clear that the Prevention of Corruption Act will not stand in the case.  Sudheer was appointed as MD of Kerala State Industrial Enterprises Limited. “It is already reported before the High Court that none of the accused had obtained any pecuniary advantage in this case," the affidavit said.

It  further submitted that  the offence under the Prevention of Corruption Act may not lie against the accused by taking note of the cancellation of the appointment order and also in view of the fact that Sudheer, the second accused,  has not assumed charge.  He  has not gained anything. Sudheer moved the court  challenging the case registered in connection with his appointment as MD of KSIE. The court had earlier criticised the agency and directed the VACB to inform what exactly was  the monitory benefit or valuable thing obtained by the persons allegedly involved in the case.    The court is set to consider the plea on Tuesday.
