Thiruvananthapuram: Georgia is one of the world's fastest growing countries where medical universities are enjoying a very high world ranking, even higher than Ukraine and Russia. “Georgia welcomes students from all across the world to take admission for medical programmes. The affordable fee structures have made it easy for the students world over to complete their medical degrees and get WHO and UNESCO approved certificates," said TMS Kutty, CEO of Campus India, a career consultant.

Medical universities where English is the medium of instruction include David Tvildiani Medical University (AIETI Medical School), Akaki Tsereteli State University and University Geomedi. “As the fees are quite less when compared to other western countries, students always opt Georgian medical universities for MBBS courses," he told DC.

"Procuring higher studies from Georgia includes following the principles and procedures of funding and managing higher educational services. For pursuing a well-trained MBBS programme in Georgia, students need to follow an MBBS course of six years."

"Moreover, MBBS in Georgia also offers special coaching programs, during the last year of MBBS. This special course is made for those Indian students who want to practice in India," Mr Kutty said. It is mandatory to have a good educational record if you want to study in Georgia. Interested candidates must go through a special entrance exam.

Maximum Georgian universities follow the European Union credit transfer system for grading. Moreover, the students need to be proficient in English and must have passed their higher secondary studies from a reputed school with four major subjects like biology, mathematics, physics and chemistry, Mr Kutty said.

For the medical studies, students have to pay US$3,500 to $6,500, which comes to Rs 2.4 lakh to 4 lakh per year. “It all solely depends on your comfort zone and budget plans. Living expenses will be around $ 200 to 250 (around Rs 15,000), which is comparatively low considering other western countries,” he said.

“They also teach in Russian, and the students have the full right to choose their language. The faculties offer particular attention to overseas students. There is a full gamut of options available to the students after they pass out. They can easily apply for any high positions in different healthcare setups and medical industry with their own specifications.”
