KTR mulls training centre for local workforce

HYDERABAD: Stating that almost 70-80 per cent of the working staff at construction sites in the city were from northern states while people from Telangana were suffering in the Gulf, MA&UD minister K.T. Rama Rao said a training institute must be opened in the city to train and employ locals to work closer to their families.

If CREDAI and the other real estate bodies were willing to come forward, the minister said, he would like a proposal for a training institute for workers where local people in the state could get necessary training and could be employed in the construction sector.  "This will create an ecosystem for the realty sector to flourish in the coming years. We can together create blue collar jobs with the power of CREDAI, TREDA and other real estate bodies. Our men from Telangana are working in far away countries for meagre incomes. With this initiative, we can have them work from their homes by staying with their families," said the minister.

Secretary of CREDAI Rajashekar said it was the need of the hour. "If the trial phase goes well, we can go full scale on this initiative. This will provide employment to our men locally. With the help of the government, we can encourage the people to join the training programme and launch this initiative. The minister also met us and asked us to seriously draft a plan to get this in action. Many opportunities and requirements will be created and met. We can deliver the best product with our own men, the government is also very keen on this," he said.
