Pompilai Orumai leaders withdraw hunger strike
Three leaders of the Congress were arrested.
Kottayam: The leaders of 'Pompilai Orumai,' who are agitating in Munnar demanding the resignation of electricity minister M.M. Mani, late on Saturday withdrew their hunger strike and said they would continue with satyagraha. Earlier in the evening, the were shifted to the Adimali taluk hospital. The police took the action as the health of Gomathy Augustine, Rajeswary and Kowsalya had deteriorated. Earlier, the workers of Congress and AAP tried to prevent police from shifting them. Three leaders of the Congress were arrested. Gomathy tried to jump out of the ambulance when it reached the hospital.
She told reporters that she would continue the hunger strike and refuse to take medicines with her. Meanwhile, Sreelatha Chandran, another leader continued the strike at the venue. Hindu Aikya Vedi state president P.S. Biju and other leaders visited Munnar and extended support to the striking leaders. However, later Gomathy got discharged from hospital and resumed strike.
