New Delhi: The ‘betrayed’ farmers of Tamil Nadu will not allow Prime Minister Narendra Modi to enter the state as his Government failed to constitute the Cauvery Management Board, a senior farmers’ leader said here Thursday.

President P. R. Pandiyan of the coordination committee of the ‘Tamil Nadu all farmers’ associations’ told reporters that several farmers from the state had been camping in Delhi for the last few days to press the Centre to constitute the CMB without further delay since the Cauvery releases were critical for farming operations in the delta region.

With the Centre not moving on the issue, the TN farmers tried to march towards the Prime Minister’s house in the evening-they had given notice of this plan on Wednesday itself-but were taken into custody by the police.

“The police released us but only after getting a signed undertaking from us that we will not hold any agitations in Delhi against the Prime Minister. They told us we should not hold any protests against the PM in any part of Delhi. We signed those letters and we are returning to Chennai, suspending our agitation; but then, we will not allow any Central government establishment to function in Tamil Nadu. Nor will we allow the Prime Minister to step into our state until the CMB is constituted”, said Pandiyan.
