Migrants to be taught Hindi, Malayalam in Kozhikode

The mission is to make workers fluent in both languages and for this a minimum of five hours a week will be devoted for the training session.

KOZHIKODE: The Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority is all set to launch a training programme in Malayalam and Hindi speaking for migrant labourers in Kozhikode from December 5. As part of the programme, the instructors who has been appointed for this mission will be given a session by KSLMA on Monday. The training programme also known as literacy programme aims at making the migrant workers literate in these two languages for ease of communication in state. 

The mission is to make workers fluent in both languages and for this a minimum of five hours a week will be devoted for the training session. "We are planning to open over 20 centers in Kozhikode so that each worker is given equal importance", said Nasar Ali, Labour department official. "It is indeed appreciable that some of the workers have already started learning the language on their own," he added.

KSLMA has designed a special textbook for the literacy programme. The textbook will contain 25 lessons, which will detail on various issues and situations faced by the migrant workers here. Health care, market, work, hotel and travel will be among some of the topics to be discussed in the textbooks.
