KOZHIKODE: Kozhikode MP M.K. Raghavan has protested against the union ministry’s decision to  scrap  All-India Radio’s regional news bulletin. He sent a fax message to Minister for Information and Broadcasting Smriti Irani on Tuesday to  review the decision  saying  the regional bulletin, that crossed 50 years, was  very popular in this part of the country.   The Kozhikode section of news, that started on a Vishu day in 1966,  has two 10-minute  news bulletins and five FM headlines from 8 a.m. in a gap of one hour.

Several other news  programmes are also  aired from here. The MP stressed that the AIR receives maximum  advertisement revenue from the morning news. When the news unit gets shifted to Thiruvananthapuram, it is feared that the region will lose its importance. When the same decision was taken in  October last, the ministry had promised that the regional bulletins would not be stopped.
