Nizamabad: The Ganesh immersion Shobha Yatra was held on a pious but colourful note here on Thursday.

As is the tradition, the Shobha Yatra began from the Dubba area. Sarvajanik Ganesh mandali president Bantu Ganesh flagged it off. Ganesh idols of Dubba and its surrounding areas were carried on the Ratham specially decorated for the event.

Nizamabad urban MLA Bigala Ganesh Gupta, zilla parishad chairman Dadannagari Vittalrao, district collector Hanumanthu were among those who took part in the inaugural programme.

Shobha yatra proceeded via Gurbabadi road, Gandhi Gunj, Gandhi Chowk, Nehru Park, Quilla Road, Gajulpet and Pedda Bazaar.

As usual, devotees in large numbers took part in Ganesh idols immersion procession. The organisers of Ganesh pandals set up their idols on the Ratham for immersion at Vinayakula Bavi in Vinayaknagar. A few Ganesh pandals took out their idols for immersion in River Godavari at Basar, Ummeda.

Kanteshwar, Subhashnagar, Hamalwadi, Shivajinagar, Varni road, Vinayaknagar, Kotagally, Namdevwada, Gangasthan, Mubaraknagar and other colonies witnessed festive look as youths danced to the beats of the DJ system. Members of Ganesh pandals took part in the immersion processions by wearing the dress code. The police made elaborate security arrangements during the course of the immersion processions.
