HYDERABAD: BJP leader Dr Sravan Dasoju on Wednesday demanded that the Telangana government pay salaries and pensions to the employees without fail by October 1, in view of Dasara festival on October 5.

In a statement, Dr Sravan said the inordinate delay in salary payments to government employees by the K. Chandrashekar Rao government over the past few months was "extremely unfortunate in Telangana which is supposedly a rich state. Delays in salary payments have become a regular phenomenon." At least during the festive season, the government should pay salaries on time, Dr Sravan said.

Previously, the practice was to pay salaries in advance to employees before important festivals like Dasara, Diwali, Id-ul-Fitr and others. "But this Chief minister has turned Telangana's economy topsy-turvy and is unable to pay salaries on time. It is being delayed by 10 to 15 days every month. In some departments, salaries are pending for even two to three months," he said.

Due to financial mismanagement and misgovernance, families of lakhs of government employees are being put to severe suffering, Dr Sravan said.
