Hyderabad chain-snatching gang get prison terms

Hyderabad: Two men who carried out a spree of 11 chain-snatchings over two days last year in Hyderabad and the man who helped them dispose of the gold chains were convicted and given sentences at the criminal courts in Nampally today. They got 21 months in prison and a fine of Rs 500 each.

After committing those robberies, the men unwittingly fell into the police dragnet. The guys who carried out the snatchings,  UP natives Choka, 28, and Monu Valmiki, 30, were stopped at a routine vehicle check by the Bhavan Nagar police. The were found to be carrying a knife.

Police detained them and grilled them. Under pressure, they spilled the beans on their 11 snatching offences in the Rachakonda police district near Hyderabad.

The gold chains they snatched they delivered to a fence, a crook who sells stolen gold, name C Praneeth Chowdary, 25. He too was taken in.

The Bhavani Nagar police pursued the case under the relevant sections of IPC and the Arms Act.

The police ho filed a charge-sheet against the accused before the Eighth Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court at Nampally, which conducted a trial and convicted the accused trio.
