Youth to build houses for poor in Kerala

KANNUR: The tragic fate of the dalit law student, Jisha, of Perumbavur has prompted a group of youngsters  in Thalassery to join  hands to help the poor in need of help.  They have decided to build a house for Balan, Chandroth Meethal, Moozhikara,  and his family consisting of his wife and a teenage daughter  who are staying in a dilapidated single-room house.

The house will be an organic home, said Mr Nashif Alimiyan, core committee chairman of ‘Kiwis’ (the charity group). “The foundation stone for the house costing '12 lakh will be laid in the second week of June.  Before the Assembly polls, we had published a people’s manifesto and the first priority  was given to the security of women, and this is our first initiative,” said Mr Nashif.

The group identified the family of Balan  and circulated the details among the members  numbering around 2,000. They agreed to raise the funds and a model of the house was presented to the family. Mr Nashif said  they would construct a cost-effective eco-friendly organic house that blends with  nature.

“Through this project, we also intend to promote organic homes in Kerala, which are  suitable for  climatic changes,” he added. “The houses also provide better health for the inmates. By constructing organic homes, we can provide a safer and healthier life for the family members. Kerala is yet to get out of the shock of the brutal murder of Jisha. She was living in a pathetic condition in a one-room house. Here, Balan and his family are also in the same condition,” said Nashif.
