NIT summit lays stress on innovation

The event aimed at highlighting the various factors of innovations in the global market, transforming the current business standards.

Chennai: NIT Tiruchy’s ‘Youth Summit’, which addressed the topic of ‘Marching towards the Innovation Economy’ and discussing the need for innovation in Indian society’, and various opportunities in the field, along with the need for youth to implement reforms as per the current technological innovations, was inaugurated on Saturday.

The event aimed at highlighting the various factors of innovations in the global market, transforming the current business standards. “India is the most innovative place and the only time a person is innovating is when he wants something new against monotonous life. Only when the need of an innovation arises, because of certain problems, it actually takes place,” said Padma Shri Anil K Gupta, a professor at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.

The panel discussion, moderated by Dr Prashant Salwan, a professor at IIM, Indore, covered various topics, ranging from India’s capacity and potential to innovate to the reasons why India’s global ranking is so disappointing.

The panellists also spoke about the importance of innovation in healthcare and related areas, as well as how the government can help bring about better innovation.

The panel discussion was followed by a short presentation on Entrepreneur Banking, by Chandramouli, a deputy general manager at Small Industries Development Bank of India (Sidbi).
