Hyderabad: Ratlavath Shankar Naik, a habitual offender involved in over 100 property offences, was arrested by Osmania University Police, who identified him after analysing over 50 CCTV footages and other clues, here on Thursday.

The unusual operating style of Naik was that he would leave a slip or a write on the wall about the property he was taking away from the house and also maintained the same in his diary.

Naik began maintaining an inventory of the property he stole, after the owner of a house that he had burgled complained of more missing property than what he had actually stolen.

A native of Kurnool district, Naik splurged on stays in luxurious hotels in the city where he would browse dating sites looking for a date till midnight.

On coming out around midnight, he would look out for locked houses, loot the house and return with the booty to the hotel. The very next morning, he would mortgage the stolen gold jewellery with financiers or jewellers.

In a similar manner, he looted a locked house at Habsiguda in September. OU police began investigating the case and found that he was involved in eight cases after his previous arrest taking his overall tally in the two Telugu states to 102. He has been sent to judicial remand, police said.
