Educationists, bureaucrats write to Vidyasagar Rao for action on VCs

The petition to incorporate UGC norms in the statutes of all universities for appointing the Vice-Chancellor.

Chennai: A team of leading educationists, former bureaucrats and social activists has  sent a petition to Governor and Chancellor CH Vidhyasagar Rao seeking action against the Vice-Chancellors who met Sasikala Natarajan last week.

In a petition to the Governor, they urged him to take four steps to redeem the situation. They have asked for written explanation or apology from all those Vice-Chancellors who made the visit and also suggested to take punitive action.

They also demanded to drop the Governor’s nominee and Tamil Nadu Open University Vice-Chancellor M. Bhaskaran from the Anna University’s V-C search committee.

The petition to incorporate UGC norms in the statutes of all universities for appointing the Vice-Chancellor. “Set in motion complete transparency and objectivity in the constitution of search committees and selection of Vice-Chancellors,” they urged.

The petition has been signed by former VCs M. Anandakrishnan, V. Vasanthidevi, D.K. Oza and retired IAS officers B.S. Raghavan, M.R. Sivaraman and M.G. Devasahayam among others.
