HYDERABAD: Doctors of the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Nizamabad set a record as they performed 59 surgeries at a time. Specialists in the gynaecology, general surgery, orthopaedic, ophthalmology and ENT departments simultaneously conducted the surgeries within 24 hours from Thursday night to Friday.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, GGH medical superintendent Dr Prathima Raj
said the record was a chance occurrence. "We planned knee replacement and
other surgeries on Thursday, but a few emergency cases came in which
increased the number of surgeries,” she explained.

Operation theatres were made ready and doctors of various departments
planned the successful completion of surgeries, DR Prathima Raj added.

Meanwhile, minister for roads and buildings V. Prashanth Reddy appreciated
the team of GGH doctors for performing a 59 surgeries in a single day. This
initiative showed the quality of services of government hospitals in the
state, he said.
