HYDERABAD: Police in the three city commissionerates of Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda have placed their forces on high alert in view of the heavy rain forecast and have deployed teams at all vulnerable locations spreading over Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri and Yadadri Bhongir districts.

Hyderabad police commissioner C.V. Anand said that unlike in the past, there is less inundation in the city due to the Strategic Nala Development Programme (SNDP), and there were fewer vehicles on the road due to the holidays, which had made matters easy.

Though the water level at the Musi bridges had come down, all areas abutting the river were on high alert.

Cyberabad police commissioner M. Stephen Raveendra said the staggering of logout timings in the IT corridor had yielded good results by avoiding traffic congestion. “Public safety will be the top priority. Since a lot of construction activity is going on and the sites are filled with rain water, we have cordoned them off,” he said and added that police were patrolling vulnerable areas.

Rachakonda police commissioner D.S. Chauhan said the prime focus of the police was on the Musi which swells as it enters the Bhongir zone. He said 21 roads where water was flowing above the causeway have been identified and barricaded.
