WARANGAL: A major train accident was averted after the last two bogies of a goods train got separated from the train at Kesamudram mandal in Mahabubabad district on Wednesday.

As the goods train was heading towards Kazipet from Vijayawada, the last two bogies, including the guard’s bogie, were separated from the train due to breakdown of the link near the Kesamudram railway station.

The guard, present in the last bogie, noticed it and immediately informed the loco pilot. Meanwhile, the engine and rest of the compartments went ahead almost a kilometre.

Receiving the information, the loco pilot immediately took the train back and after linking the separated bogies, started the train towards Kazipet.

Meanwhile, the railway officials heaved a sigh of relief as the separated bogies did not derail. They said that a major accident was prevented due to alertness of the guard. Had the separated bogies derailed and fallen on the tracks, a major train accident could have occurred, said a railway official.

The railway has initiated a probe into the incident.

Several super fast, express and passenger trains run between Vijayawada, Warangal, Kazipet and Secunderabad railway stations.
