‘Frame within a frame’ exhibition

Kozhikode: A good photograph may contain more meanings than what is apparent to a viewer. An exhibition of photographs to help the people find such hidden meanings and promote young photographic enthusiasts has been organised at the New Way film school near Rajaji road here. The school is an initiative of 'Light Source' a Facebook group of over 8,000 members.

The theme of the exhibition is 'Frame within a frame,' which offers a a different perspective to the photographs on display.'Light Source' conducts photography competitions on a monthly basis. This time, over 250 applicants submitted photos and 15 of them were selected and exhibited.

"Earlier, the competition was confined to Facebook and the winners were announced in the group itself. But this time we have brought it to the public," said Prathap Joseph, director of New Way film school.

The group has decided to display pictures of the competitions which are open to everyone.  Subhash Koduvally bagged the first prize for his picture of a woman in the frame.

The group also conducts camera walks and workshops titled 'Walk with a camera, talk with people' to interact with the people and understand their feelings and emotions. Awareness classes, circulation of notices on road deaths of wild animals and precautions to be taken while driving through forests were also conducted as part of nature walks.The theme of the competition for this month is 'Work.'

"We have launched the New Way film school now to approach cinema in its purest form," added Prathap. The admissions to  the school are still open.  Direction, cinematography, script writing, photography etc are some of the courses being taught there. The exhibition will end on June 1.
