KOZHIKODE: More than 200 doctors under the IMA’s Vadakara branch abstained from hospital duties on Thursday protesting against the inaction of the police over the alleged attack on the RMO of Asha hospital. The RMO Dr Anuraj was allegedly manhandled and taken away in an ambulance from the hospital, by a group of 30, accusing him of giving a wrong injection to a patient. Dr Anuraj was taken along with the patient from Madappally to Government Medical College hospital on April 23, saying that the patient developed complications after being given an injection to treat migraine.

However, the IMA officials said that the doctors at the medical college also found that there was no mistake in the injection and had filed a case. They added that no action was taken against the relatives and bystanders of the patients, who allegedly attacked the RMO. No doctors, except those working in the emergency sections attended duty on Thursday. If the “injustice” continued, they said, they would begin an indefinite strike and if needed, it would be extended to the whole of the district.
