Chennai: After state ministers and IAS officers, now top engineers associated with six government departments including public works department, state highways, Tamil Nadu Road Development Corporation and Tamil Nadu Infrastructure Development Corporation are spending sleepless nights, thanks to the ongoing income tax raids.

The engineers associated with the contract works like widening of East Coast Road and Chennai Vandalur-Wallajabad Tiruvallur highways awarded to tainted JSR Infra Developers Ltd, owned by Sekhar Reddy are now staying away from site inspections. Similarly, violations in tender norms are also now under IT scanner, an official said.

At present, the IT case mostly deals with the unearthed cash and money trail. If IT sleuths probe technical aspects, top engineers of government departments could be in trouble, the official said.
