HC to hear PILs on civic polls
Responding to this, the Chief Justice asked why they had not mentioned their political affiliation in the affidavit.
Hyderabad: The High Court has agreed to hear PILs against on municipal elections on Friday, following a request by the State Election Commission (SEC) and the government.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan and Justice A. Abhishek Reddy were about to adjourn the hearing to October 21, when counsels for the SEC and the government said a single judge had on July 25 directed that the civic polls be conducted within 119 days from the day the orders were issued.
Additional advocate-general J. Ramachandra Rao said municipal authorities had rectified the objections raised in the PILs regarding delimitation of wards, publication of the voters’ list and other grievances.
Chinnola Naresh Reddy, counsel for the petitioner, had said that five MPs had filed affidavits stating they had not been informed of the division of wards.
Responding to this, the Chief Justice asked why they had not mentioned their political affiliation in the affidavit. He asked if Karimnagar BJP MP Bandi Sanjay, who had alleged that his signature was forged, had lodged a police complaint.
