Sorry, she is no alms-seeker

Kochi/ Thiruvananthapuram : Hanan Hameed was back at selling fish at Thammanam on Thursday, the day after she had a roller-coaster ride of fame and ill-fame but found herself unable to pursue her job. The police told her not to go ahead with the trade even as media and onlookers gathered around her on her return from college in the evening.  A heart-broken Hanan rued that unprecedented media attention and the controversy thereafter have cost her her "job" and that she valued money earned through blood and sweat more than anything else.

The teenager, who used to make a living by selling fish after college hours, was disheartened after an array of attempts to malign her through social media. After the news of her selling fish to fund her education, false charges of her "stage-managing the fish selling drama" as part of promoting a new film in which she had a small role, began to do rounds.

 "I was selling fish in all evenings at Kalamassery along with one Babu and another person for the last one month. But when I encountered bad behaviour from the other person, I decided to sell fish all by myself. I went to several places like Aluva to find a suitable location. Finally a vegetable seller near Vytilla Hub suggested me the place at Tammanam junction," Hanan told reporters at her rented room in Madavana.

However, after the controversy, the cops prevented her from fish sale when she reached Tammanam on Thursday evening. "I sold fish at Tammanam for three days and the police had only helped me then. However, after the media hype, they strictly told me not to sell fish there, may be due to law and order issues,” Hanan said with teary eyes.

She said she was ready to give back each paise that was donated by good Samaritans after her struggle was highlighted by a daily. "I'm ready to withdraw the entire Rs 1.5 lakh received in the last 24 hours and give them back. I like to toil hard and make money for my living. I will look out for another place to continue fish selling right from tomorrow," she said.

Hanan was admitted to a hospital here on Wednesday night after she complained of ear imbalance and severe back pain.

Women’s panel initiates probe on cyber attack

Kerala State Women’s Commission has initiated a probe into the cyber lynching of Hanan Hameed. Commission sources told Deccan Chronicle that the issue has come to the notice of the Commission. “We will look into the matter and would take a final decision,” said sources.

Soon after her struggle was reported by the media, some people in social media abused her using her selfies with film actors to prove their claim that she wasn’t poor. This was done without considering the fact that she has been doing small roles in movies, helping her interact with stars. There were also abuses on her for not wearing a head scarf.
